Porch Parade: Rock 'N Share Faves & more #14

Operation Organization - Me & The Shady Porch

The great thing about organizing anything for me is that it leads to organizing other things. Organizing my work area led to organizing my storage area; organizing my pots and pans led to organizing my cooking utensils. As I have made progress, "Operation Organization" has brought me to a point of organizing my priorities in some unexpected areas, like the role "The Shady Porch" will have in the coming months.
When I started this blog - nearly one year ago - I had some apprehension about it because of the time I knew it would take to make it what I wanted it to be. Plainly put, I woefully underestimated the time commitment. My schedule was already filled with taking care of our home and working as my hubby's aide for the classes he teaches and takes. Additionally, in the spring, I am the track statistician for his boys and girls teams. Add to that all
that blogging entails and I am no longer feeling like I do anything well. Everything feels frenzied and I do not like that feeling.

The fun of blogging has diminished as my duties increased and I have decided to take the summer off starting May 25th now. I need to reevaluate priorities and, while the hubby has summer off from school as a teacher (not as a student, unfortunately), I want spend time with him and focus on projects that we want to accomplish together.

Unfortunately, I will not be able to continue the weekly Rock 'N Share linky party after all.  In light of this late announcement, I will put it up on Wednesday but that will be the last Rock 'N Share party while I'm on summer break.

This is hard for me because I hate feeling like I am disappointing anyone. I am not saying goodbye because I hate those, too. I must say thank you to all of you that have been so kind and helpful to me. I am thankful for all of the wonderful friends and acquaintances this past year. Many I believe are God-ordained friendships that bless me richly. I hope in some way I have been an encourager to you as you've been to me. I will still be accessible via my email account, in the event you want to talk and you will always be in my prayers.

Lemon Creme Bars

My thoughts turn to lemony foods and beverages when the weather begins to warm up and the sun shines bright. I guess it's the bright lemon yellow color and the refreshing coolness of lemonade that cause that.  I turned to this particular recipe due to it's simplicity. You start with a oatmeal cookie mix and add the delicious lemon layer make a wonderful Lemon Creme Bar.

Lemon Creme Bars
I've already shown that we love lemons at our house with my Lemonade Bundt Cake and Lemony Sour Cream Pie.  Since I had already shared a cake and pie recipe, I thought I would do something different opting to make a bar recipe.
I don't know if you can find an easier recipe to make! Thankfully, the ease of making does not sacrifice taste because these bars are full of yummy oatmeal cookie and sweet lemony flavors.

Garlic-Toasted Grilled Cheese BLT

We love sandwiches at our house so I was glad to see this month’s Crazy Cooking Challenge would afford us another opportunity to try some new sandwich recipes, specifically grilled cheese sandwiches!  It was my favorite challenge so far!

It came down to two great sandwiches, we loved the Sloppy Joe Grilled Cheese Recipe  and a Garlic-Toasted Grilled Cheese BLT! Although both sandwiches were awesome, we decided the Garlic Grilled Cheese BLT was our favorite.

Cinco De Mayo Fiesta - Celebration of Cuisine

A big part of the Cinco de Mayo celebration is about the food. There is no better way to celebrate and experience a culture than through their cuisine. So I thought in honor of Cinco de Mayo Day, I would share some of the recent Mexican or Mexican-influenced recipes from the Shady Porch link up parties.  Buenos días!

Our Spring Show - Blooms & Buds

    White Azalea
I feel like I've been a little remiss about sharing the wonderful signs of spring and our garden progress. We've had seedlings growing for
awhile and the forsythia blooms have come and gone, so I will no longer delay.
Here's a glimpse of Spring in our little patch of grass.
First, the beautiful flowers, then the vegetable seedlings.

Happy growing fellow farmers and green thumbs!
    Red Azalea Blooms
    Hyacinth
    Forsythia
Pink Azalea buds and blooming bearded irises
This is the front garden just getting started; wait until July or August!

These are corn seedlings! I can't wait to roast 'em on the grill!
Do you know what this one is? Watermelon! We've been able to harvest
    one or two a year.
A few of the veggies we have planned for the garden this year: Roma tomatoes, Cucumber, Butternut Squash, Lettuce, Carrots, Cauliflower, and, in the back, Cannas, a longtime favorite flower.
