My Favorite Ideas for Valentine's Day Fun!

Valentine's Day is almost here! It is so much fun to celebrate romantic love and I've been working on a few ideas to share with you and help celebrate the day. The hubby and I have been married 33 years and, while we've never really made a BIG deal about Valentine's Day, it is nice to acknowledge the one day set aside for affairs of the heart as well as affirming our love for each other. This year I indulged my inner crafter and created a few artsy items to serve as my Valentine gifts instead of some mass produced card.

Framed 3D Valentine
First, I made a little framed Valentine for the hubby's desk or office wall. I used MDF wood cut into a 4-in. square and painted black with chalkboard paint. I attached a glitter heart with a string to look like a balloon and wrote, "My [glitter heart] belongs 2 You XOXO" The "balloon" heart adds a fun 3D effect to the framed Valentine and I think it's sweet! I think the hubby will, too!

String Art Heart

After seeing so many string art projects, I decided to leap in by creating a string art heart plaque. Again, using MDF board painted black and cut into a square (11x11 this time), I printed out a heart to use as a pattern for the nail placement. Once I placed the template, I tapped in nails at regularly spaced intervals along the edge of the pattern. Make sure your nails have heads so the twine doesn't slip off!)  I used fluorescent pink multi-use nylon twine and strung it from nail-to-nail until I was happy with the design and coverage. For my first attempt, I am tickled with the results! It was an easy project and I plan to make more in the future.

Red Burlap Valentine Door Wreath

My final project was a Valentine door wreath. I made a red burlap wreath some time ago and I have reused it on several occasions (the Hugs & Kisses door decoration from last Valentine's Day, as the base for a Game Day wreathand finally as a Christmas wreath) This year, I thought "Why reinvent the wheel? Use what you have... right? I took a package of table scatter glitter hearts from the Dollar Tree and attached them to the wreath along with a couple of heart picks. I think it looks nice. It only took minutes to prepare. I recommend a versatile red wreath for everyone!

I hope your Valentine is special and sweet, too, and you are able to spend it with the one you love.

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!
