The Shady Porch: Homemade Potato Chips

Homemade Potato Chips

One of the most common accompaniments to a sandwich is potato chips. Over the years, we have tried this chip and that chip and, for a while, we would have favorites (The hubster has always been a fan of the thicker, darker chips that looked like actual potatoes), but, regardless of the variety, we would roll our eyes at the price of a bag of chips and say, "We should try to make these at home." As we have gotten older, we have become more avid ingredient readers. Once we did that, we said, "We have to make these at home." So, we did. The cost of a large bag of whole potatoes is not much different from a bag of chips, and can be used in many ways. So, cost - handled. Ingredients in these chips - potatoes, peanut oil. So, ingredients - handled.
Most importantly (because everything depends on this) they taste better! More potato flavor; less salt and NO additives. You can prepare them as thick or as thin as you want and cook them to your preferred crispiness.
