Party On The Porch: Summertime Inspiration- Recipes, Crafts, DIY, Decor & more

Welcome Everyone! Summer is whizzing by and we're just starting our family reunion/garage-clearing-yard-sale/garden harvest phase around here. We got all the hard stuff (home improvement projects) out of the way early, so now it's feeling more and more like a footloose vacation. I'm so thankful that we can enjoy the outdoors more easily this summer, thanks to the mild weather we've had lately. Judging by your posts, it appears that many of you are having a great summer as well. The food looks delicious, the crafts are fun and colorful, the DIY/Decor projects inspire, and, of course, some of your posts provide an encouraging word or offer sage advice...it's a wonderfully diverse collection. Thank you all for sharing!
Before we start the party, I want to let you know that I have decided to take a vacation from the weekly party. I hope to still be blogging some, but, due to upcoming life events and, honestly, a desire to take the time to try some new ideas, I am going to suspend the Party On The Porch for the remainder of the year (there is a possibility of a Party On the Porch: Christmas Party, but we'll wait and see as the time approaches)...so this will be the last Party On the Porch for awhile.

17 Favorite Family Reunion Recipes

One of our summertime favorites is the annual family reunion. It is so precious for us to be able to gather as an extended family that well before the actual date of the reunion, we get excited about seeing each other and take to social media to chatter back and forth about the approaching date, who's coming, who we will miss seeing, where we are meeting, when everyone will arrive,...all the details. Most of all, though, we talk about the food. Some of the most enduring memories of our lives are connected to reunion food. It's a wonderful feast every year and here are some of our favorite family reunion recipes. Maybe one of them will become a family favorite at your next reunion. Happy Summer!

Peaches and Cream Pie

I ran across this recipe in one of my old, but newly acquired, cookbooks. This 60-year-old dessert recipe had ingredients that we all love, but something about it seemed...well, sort of odd...so I had to taste and see how this recipe made it to cookbook notoriety.
When served warm, as directed, this is a delicious pie, and a pretty pie as well. I did not enjoy it as much cold, but you might. It is really super easy to make and takes little time...well worth it.

Creamy Smoked Sausage Tortellini

Here's another one-skillet supper that comes together quickly and easily. It's creamy-delicious, and became an instant hit at our house. Tortellini is one of those great pastas that can be prepared many ways as evidenced in this round-up of 13 Easy & Delicious Tortellini Recipes. I purchase my tortellini at the local grocer; it comes fresh or frozen, so my dinner prep time is greatly reduced.

Corn Salsa...serve on Fish Tacos or as a side dish!

Today's corn salsa recipe is another treat that mainly comes fresh out of the garden. Of course, all of the ingredients are available at your local grocer or farmers' market as well. This Corn Salsa is great, as shown here, on fish tacos and most Mexican dishes, and it is especially good with BBQ. Further, it makes a delicious side dish to nearly any meal; I ate it with my bologna sandwich for lunch yesterday, and the hubby, who was having sliced chicken breast, spooned a liberal serving over the slices. The perfectly seasoned vegetables have just the right mix of sweet with a peppery crunch. It only takes minutes to make and can be served immediately or chilled for later.

Party On The Porch: Helpful Household Tips, Savers, Recipes, Crafts & DIY Decor

According to the hubby, the true sign that summer break is going well is when he loses track of the day of the week and he has to check a calendar or ask someone...again, this is a good thing, he says. So, now that we find ourselves with less than a month until school actually starts (don't tell him. I plan on breaking it to him around August 1!), we still have weeks of fun things on the horizon...family reunions and some of our best friends are coming in soon for a long-overdue visit!  YIPPEE! Here's to squeezing every moment out of what remains of summer! Now on to the PARTY!!
Welcome and thank you to old and new Porch partiers! Your projects are thoughtful, helpful, delicious, and clever. I wish there was room to feature more...projects like the Vintage Wrought Iron Table and Chairs Redo, Philly Cheesesteak Roll, Wetless Water Blob (or is it Redneck Water Bed?), Creating a Meal Plan Around Seasonal Produce.

Caribbean Chicken Burgers

It's summertime and that means the grills are glowing and burgers are searing. For something a little different in the burger category...something to spice things up a bit, I have a Caribbean Chicken-burger recipe for you today.

This recipe and several others came from Red Gold as part of their Facebook Summer Grillin' Party. They also supplied the Red Gold tomatoes to make the various recipes as well. I chose the Caribbean Chicken burger for the very reason I mentioned above - to spice things up and do something different! Red Gold has a wide variety of recipes to choose from at Red Gold.com

As part of the Facebook Summer Grillin' Party, Red Gold is giving away 4,000 "Summertime Tomatoes All Year Long™" aprons and one grand prize winner will receive a Green Egg® Grill during the contest (from June 25th - July 23rd). #RGParty #RedGoldRecipes
To enter, go to the Red Gold Summer Grillin' Party 2 Facebook page. Good Luck!

Corn Salad...tasty & tangy

It is the best time of the year for cooking around our house with all of the fresh ingredients coming in from the garden. I love fresh from the garden recipes so much that I even have a Pinterest board dedicated to Garden Harvest Recipes. The Summer Corn Salad recipe I'm sharing today is perfect for fresh from the garden peppers, corn, green onions, and tomatoes. Most of these ingredients are not ready for harvest here yet, but I know some of you are already bringing these items in, so I wanted to share this colorful, flavorful, and healthy recipe with you.

Party On The Porch: Crafts, Decorating tips, DIY & Recipes aplenty!

Hey...it's party time again!
I hope everyone had a wonderful 4th of July! I love the 4th of July! I love the fireworks, the friends and family gatherings, and the parades and community events. The holiday holds an extra special spot in my heart because it was my Mom's birthday, (this would have been her 74th). I am thankful that I was able to spend time with lots of family I don't get to see as often as I'd like, especially my Dad, so all-in-all it was a fantastic holiday celebration this year!
Speaking of fantastic...we had an great party last week! I appreciate the hearts of bloggers and their willingness to share their ideas, talents, recipes, and tips. I am especially grateful for those who contribute by visiting whether you post a project or just come by to peruse the wares at the #partyontheporch each week, too!

Cobb Salad with Garlic Infused Croutons

The beauty of Cobb salad is the flexibility in its preparation. You can go traditional with Bleu Cheese and avocado, or not! We prefer the "not" at our house. A Cobb salad is a chopped salad that features eggs and grilled chicken; We do chop our lettuce, but we set up salad bar-style so everyone can customize their salad with their favorite ingredients. It is such an easy and healthy meal that it has become a Sunday lunch favorite. Many folks only see salad as a side dish, but a Cobb Salad, when served traditionally with chicken and bacon,  is certainly a filling meal.

Easy Frozen Fruit Pops

It's summertime, and that means cold treats! I still love to hear the jingle of an ice cream truck because it brings back the memories of how every child in the neighborhood would all sprint to his or her Mom for money, and then to the ice cream man, anxious for that frozen treat...usually a bomb pop. Well, today, though I do NOT have that familiar tune playing from the top of a big white truck, I DO have Easy Frozen Fruit Pops that are yummy and healthy...and you will be as popular as the ice cream man ever was...promise! You do not need pop molds; you can use small paper cups with Popsicle sticks/craft sticks instead. The hardest part at our house is simply waiting for the pops to freeze. The flavor possibilities are vast...we are experimenting with different fruit combinations this summer, too.
